US Forces Tried To Save Murdered Journalist Earlier This Year

American Special Forces units undertook a failed mission to rescue murdered journalist James Foley earlier this year, it has been revealed.

The units were sent into Syria to rescue several hostages, including Foley, from the terrorist group Islamic State (IS), however on arrival they discovered the captured Americans were being held elsewhere.

The raid, which was undertaken based on information gathered from other released hostages, resulted in one American soldier being injured and several IS militants being killed.

A senior US official told ABC News the raid ‘was conducted, but was not ultimately successful’.
James Foley was executed on camera by a masked man with a British accent who claimed the barbaric act was in response to the US involvement in Iraq.
