The distribution of Permanent Voters’ Card ongoing
in Lagos State has claimed its first casualty as Peoples Democratic Party’s
electoral agent was shot and killed by political thugs on the orders of All
Progressives Congress stalwart.
According to the City Reporters, the incident
happened at Oriledu, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, Sunday as the deceased who was
identified as Sikiru Ogboye was monitoring the distribution of the PVC’s by the
Independent National Electoral Commissioner, INEC, in the area.
A desperate APC gubernatorial aspirant in the
area who was accused of masterminding the killing of the young man has been
arrested along with his thugs and are being interrogated by policemen from
Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State
commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, said a pump action gun was found
in the accused car.
“It is true; I warned earlier that anybody,
no matter how lowly or highly placed, found with illegally acquired weapon must
answer for it.
“The man needs to tell us what he was doing with
a pump action found in his car and if his explanations are not satisfactory,
we’ll take him to court,” the CP said.
A statement from, Jimi Agbaje Campaign
Organisation reacting to the politically motivated killing reads in parts:
“An electoral agent of the People’s
Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State has been shot dead, Sunday afternoon,
while monitoring the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC).
“Mr. Sikiru Ogboye, a PDP Agent, was shot dead,
allegedly on the orders of a chieftain of the All People’s Congress (APC) by
suspected thugs, while he monitored the PVC Distribution exercise.
