NSCDC parades 49 pipeline vandals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State Command, has paraded 49 suspected pipeline vandals in different parts of the state.

Those apprehended and paraded by the NSCDC before newsmen in Port Harcourt include 19 teenagers, Punch online reports.

The corps commandant, Helen Amakiri, said 37 of the suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Navy before they were handed over to the NSCDC.

Amakiri disclosed that the remaining 12 suspects were arrested by operatives of the corps at Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Kpor in Gokana and Azubie in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

“In our determination to put an end to oil pipeline vandalism, 49 suspects were arrested. Out of this number, 37 suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Navy while others were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,” Amakiri said.

She, however, commended the Nigeria Navy for being alert and swift in arresting suspected criminals on the nation’s waterways.

According to Punch online, the state NSCDC commandant pointed out that further investigation would be carried out by the corps, adding that those found guilty would be prosecuted.

Amakiri assured that the NSCDC would continue to work with stakeholders to rid the state of criminal elements, maintaining that the personnel will be given the required attention to perform.

Amakiri expressed the corps readiness to reduce the rate of oil pipeline vandalism in the state to a controllable level.
