Fake Civil Defence Recruitment Officer Nabbed In Ogun

A man claiming to be a recruitment officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Obanle Ishola, has been arrested in Ogun State, Premium Times report.

The 40 year old suspect was arrested in Ilaro,Yewa -South local government area of Ogun State by the NSCDC surveillance team.

Confirming the incident and arrest, the Command Public Relations Officer, Kareem Olanrewaju, said the suspect claimed to be a clerical officer at the Yewa South Local Government.

The command’s spokesperson said the suspect duped several people, including Babatunde Ogunlana and Jimoh Ilo, of money as much as N93,000 with the promise of giving them a civil defence job.
Mr. Ishola had also issued fake appointment letters, purportedly sourced from the NSCDC in Abuja, to “successful” applicants.

The victims had petitioned the NSCDC after finding out that their appointment letters were fakes.

“Upon receiving this information, the corps officers were on the trail of the suspect who was already on the run, having gotten a clue that the civil defence were looking for him,” Mr. Olarenwaju said.
However, the suspect denied the allegations to the NSCDC, saying that the victims had paid him for something else, not for recruitment as alleged.

According to Mr. Olanrewaju, the suspect however agreed that he knew two of his accusers and that they had discussed issues relating to civil defence employment.

Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Aboluwoye Akinwande, has given the go-ahead for preliminary investigation into the matter. He warned the public, especially job seekers, to be wary of fraudsters and not to act on any information without first confirming from the civil defence authority.
