Two people should be thanking the Ekiti state police command for saving them from mob actions over alleged attempt to kidnap one Fetisayo Oguntuase.
The two suspects,Mercy Arogundada and Sunday Akinbami, are prophets of a white garment church in Ado Ekiti.
In a statement on Thursday, the Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi, said the timely response of the patrol team from Oke-Ila Division, Ado-Ekiti, to the distress call, prevented the mob from lynching the duo and setting them ablaze.
He said, “Having rescued the two prophets and the alleged victim and taken them to the station, preliminary investigation revealed that Feyisayo Oguntuase is mentally ill and was handed over to the prophets for treatment and care by her father due to the ongoing doctor’s strike.
“The prophets superintendent over a white garment church in Ado-Ekiti and give care to mentally ill people.
“In the course of providing care for her, Feyisayo escaped from the church premises, which prompted the prophets to launch a search for her.
“She was spotted at Adebayo-Iworoko Road, Ado-Ekiti on July 16 at about 9am by the prophets who made an attempt to apprehend her and take her back to the church.
“However, curious members of the public, who witnessed the unfolding drama, mistook the duo for kidnappers and raised the alarm.
“A mob soon gathered with the aim of lynching the prophets but for the timeliness of police arrival at the scene.”
Babayemi stated that the girl had been released to her father, Femi Oguntuase, after he confirmed that he handed over the girl to the prophets for care due to the ongoing doctors’ strike.
