The Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, yesterday arraigned one Babayo Usman before
Justice Faruk Lawal of State High Court Kano on one count charge bordering on
criminal breach of trust.
According to a press release by the EFCC, the
accused is alleged to have defrauded one Alhaji Yawale Patiskum whom he met
sometime in November, 2014 and collected two vehicles valued at N1.9million
from him for sale in Wukari, Taraba State, but failed to remit the money or
return the vehicles to the dealer.
The count reads “ That you Babayo Usman sometime in
November, 2011 at Kano within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Kano while
being entrusted with certain property to wit: Toyota Corolla one door and
Toyota Sienna Bus valued at the sum of (1,900,000.00) one million nine hundred
thousand Naira only) by one Alhaji Yawale Mohammed Potiskum, dishonestly
converted the said property to your own use and thereby committed an offence
contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 312 of
the same Code”.
The accused person pleaded not guilty and was
granted bail in the sum of one million Naira and a surety in like sum who must
be a level 14 Civil Servant.
The case is adjourned to December 18, 2014 for
commencement of trial.
